Last November Victoria Police Officers investigated a spike in reports of counterfeit currency.

This year officers are doing the same.

On November 27th, VicPD responded to a call regarding a man and woman allegedly making counterfeit cash in a van. They seized almost $2000 American dollars at the 800-block of Fort Street.

Investigators are working alongside the United States Secret service to investigate the case.

When fake bills were found in 2016, Det. Sgt Derek Tolmie warned that “It does not take much to produce somewhat realistic-looking counterfeit notes,” and “All you need is a computer, colour printer, and a little bit of knowledge.”

As holiday spending increases, officers warn businesses to “check cash they they receive to make sure it is not counterfeit.”
