Butchart Gardens to raise starting wages to $15/hour

The Butchart Gardens has announced that they’re offering a starting wage of $15 an hour in their spring and summer recruitment.

One of the largest employers on the Saanich Peninsula, the Gardens utilizes up to 600 employees during peak times.

“We have always attracted a broad spectrum of applicants – from students to seniors– for spring and summer… Offering a great training ground in the industry, we pride ourselves on providing a friendly, welcoming environment in which to work,” said Jeannie Christison, Director of Human Resources.

The BC Government recently raised the minimum wage to $11.35 an hour, with the goal of reaching a $15 minimum wage by 2021.

The Butchart Gardens will be holding a Job Fair on Tuesday, February 20 from 6–8pm in the Coffee Shop.

One of Victoria’s most famous tourist attractions, the Butchart Gardens offers a variety of employment positions, including food services, visitor services, gardening, and much more.

There are also opportunities in the trades with current position postings for a carpenter and an electrician.

The Job Fair will be held in the Coffee Shop of The Butchart Gardens, 800 Benvenuto Avenue, Brentwood Bay, with exclusive gate opening for the event.
