Targeted shooting in Nanaimo kills one man on Saturday (UPDATED)

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Troy Dax McKinnon. The person(s) responsible have not yet been found, and the investigation continues.

EARLIER: Saturday morning took a dark turn for residents in Nanaimo.

According to several news reports, RCMP were called to an apartment complex after reports of a shooting, just before 11 AM on Saturday, January 13th. About 6 shots were heard by nearby residents.

A CTV News report confirms that a body was found in the parking lot of Hawthorne Corner Apartments at Wakesiah Avenue and Second Street.

His identity has not been revealed

Investigators say they know the victim in question, and his identity will not be revealed until his family is contacted.

The shooting is believed to be targeted, and might be connected to a nearby vehicle fire that broke out soon after the body was discovered.

The investigation is currently in its early stages.
