New B.C. phone numbers in 2019 will be starting with “672”.
According to the Canadian telecommunications regulator (CRTC), the implementation of the new area code is necessary in order to relieve pressure from the current numbers.
The existing 604, 778, 250 and 236 area codes are expected to be filled by 2021.
672 is set to be put in place in May 2019, which will give phone companies enough time to adjust to the change before the current area codes run out.
