Victoria Royals’ star Matthew Phillips looks to continue 21-game point streak

Share

Victoria Royals forward Matthew Phillips has been absolute dynamite since the calendar flipped to 2018, notching at least a point in every game since January 5th.

He’ll look to keep his hot streak alive this weekend, as the Royals host the Portland Winterhawks in a Friday-Saturday set at Save-On-Foods Memorial Center.

His 21-game streak is the second-longest the entire league has seen this season, and he’s tallied 16 goals and 24 assists over that span. Remarkably, he’s tallied 14 multi-point games to just 7 singular point performances.

Franchise record for points within reach this weekend

Phillips has already smashed his career high for points this season with 99 (44 goals, 55 assists), and now has his sights set on the franchise record for most points in a season. Former Chilliwack Bruin Mark Santorelli holds the mark, tallying 27 goals and 74 assists for 101 points in the 2007-08 season.

The Calgary Flame draft pick is almost certainly playing his last season of junior hockey, and has put his best foot forward thus far. Last year’s 50 goal, 40 assist performance was already impressive, but he’s found another gear this season while captaining the squad. He sits 5th in league scoring, trailing two duos from Moose Jaw and Swift Current, and is the highest scoring player in the Western Conference.

Saturday’s game is Pink in the Rink!

Join the Royals for one of the most popular games of the season! The Royals will don pink jerseys for the match, and auction Matthew Phillips, Tyler Soy, Griffen Outhouse, and Marty the Marmot’s jerseys post-game.

The first 2000 fans will receive a pink lanyard, and the B.C. Cancer Foundation will be raffling a WestJet roundtrip for two that’s good for anywhere they fly in North America.

The Royals’ Director of Ticketing, Devin Mazur, will also shave his head live on ice following the game in support of the BC Cancer Foundation. To date, nearly $4,000 has already been raised by family, friends, co-workers and Royals’ fans. To donate or for more information, visit here.
