On Monday, February 12th, an Alert Bay resident recorded an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime sighting.
Jared Towers, a cetacean research technician from Alert Bay, BC, spotted a sperm whale in Johnstone Strait, and was able to grab photos and a video of the majestic creature.
According to Towers’ Facebook post, there has not been a recorded sighting of a sperm whale along the inner coast of British Columbia since 1984.
He posted a number of photos and a video of the sperm whale and five T137 killer whales as they swam by.
