Siren testing scheduled for three Vancouver Island communities tomorrow

Share

In the interests of making sure that everyone is prepared for a natural disaster, siren testing has been scheduled for three Vancouver Island communities between Thursday, February 15th and Sunday February 18th.

People in Port Renfrew, Pacheedaht First Nation, and Jordan River Regional Park are in for some earthquake and tsunami early warning systems testing this week.

They can expect loud, intermittent sirens during the testing period.

Here’s the full schedule:

  • Port Renfrew and Pacheedaht First Nation: Thursday, February 15th – Saturday, February 17th
The siren will sound intermittently between 9 AM and 5 PM while system settings are being adjusted, followed by a full test on Sunday, February 18 at 11:30 AM.
  • Jordan River Regional Park:  Thursday, February 15th
Testing of the warning system will take place between 11 AM and 1 PM

The systems are not operational at this time and the testing is being conducted to make sure everything is in order before they can be up and running later this year.
