Victoria Royals host Red Deer Rebels and Vancouver Giants this weekend

Share

The Royals host the surging Red Deer Rebels this Friday night, followed by a match with the Vancouver Giants on Saturday, in a back-to-back set at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Center.

The Rebels will come to the Island with an impressive 7-1-2-0 record in their past 10 games, despite an overall record 19-26-10-3.

The Giants, meanwhile, make their last trip across the Georgia Strait in the regular season for their 10th and final matchup against the Royals. The previous two games both required extra time to finish, and have shown a renewed spark in a rivalry that dwindled recently based on the Giants’ struggles.

If the playoffs were to start today, the Royals and Giants would see themselves head-to-head in a first round matchup.

High flying Royals with point streaks on the line

The Royals enter the weekend’s set on an offensive groove which has seen them score at least 3 goals in each of their last 7 games. With that offensive success comes a few point streaks, none more impressive than Matthew Phillips.

Phillips currently has a mind blowing 19-game point streak, where he’s tallied 15 goals and 21 assists for 36 points. If he can register at least a point in both games, he will own the second longest point streak of the entire WHL season.

Franchise point leader Tyler Soy, meanwhile, has had an impressive run of 7 games where he’s scored 7 goals and 9 assists for 16 points. Scoring over two points per game is impressive no matter how long, but including a goal per game with that is remarkable.

Tanner Kaspick, meanwhile, has been finding his groove over his last 4 games, with 4 goals and 6 assists for 10 points over that span.

Noah Gregor also has been finding the scoresheet of late, with 4 goals and 3 assists over his last 4 games.

Over that span, Kaspick and Gregor have linked up for 6 goals over that time – either assisting each other’s goals or registering both assists on a teammate’s goal.
