Weather warning: Strong winds expected in Greater Victoria today

Brace yourselves, Victoria could be in for some hectic weather this weekend before the sun shows itself next this week.

Gusts of up to 70 km/h could hit Greater Victoria today according to a wind warning from Environment Canada.

A strong cold front moving into the area this afternoon and this evening will bring with it strong winds, with westerly gusts battering the region before the weather front moves into the Interior.

A second wind storm will form Sunday mornng from an Arctic ridge of high pressure from the BC Interior, spreading strong northeasterly winds near 70 km/h to Greater Victoria and the southern sections of the Southern Gulf Islands.

Special weather statement also issued 

There is potential for snowfall this weekend as the cold arctic blast arrives tonight. Conditions will remain cold and unsettled.

The arctic air will linger into the work week with daytime highs slightly above freezing and overnight lows approaching minus 5.
