Mental health call results in evacuation and crisis negotiation on Gorge Road

Share

One man has been taken to hospital after a mental-health related call prompted a response by Patrol and Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team officers in the Gorge area Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 100-block of Gorge Road East for a report of a man suffering from a mental-health related crisis just after noon on March 27.

Out of an abundance of caution, and based on information that emerged as officers worked to locate the man, the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, including Crisis Negotiators, were called out to assist.

Building Evacuated

Unconfirmed reports claim that the man sought to commit suicide by cop.

The building involved was temporarily evacuated to ensure the safety of others there.

After a number of hours, officers were able to take the man into custody without further incident.

While no one was physically injured, the man involved was transported to hospital for a mental health evaluation.

No charges are anticipated at this time.
