BC Ferries freeze and decrease fares, increase senior discount

Share

Great news for passengers who use BC Ferries on a regular basis!

The company has announced that as of April 1st, ferry rates on 21 routes – including Horseshoe Bay-Langdale – have been reduced by 15% on average. Meanwhile, ticket rates on three Metro Vancouver-Vancouver Island routes have been frozen.

Seniors will now traverse the waters free of charge on Mondays to Thursdays (except holiday Mondays) on all major and inter-island routes.

Funding

These discounts are being funded by both the BC NDP government and BC Ferries, and will cost a total of $78 million over the next two years. BC Ferries is pitching in $39 million to make it happen, while the province will be contributing the remaining $59 million.

“We are focused on the affordability of ferry travel. Our present financial position allows us
to use some of our net earnings to reduce fares for our customers.” said Mark Collins, BC Ferries’ President and CEO.

“This major additional contribution by the Province expands efforts to improve affordability.”
