Esquimalt High School petitions to upgrade track field

Share

Residents of Esquimalt are coming together to support a common cause.

Over $150,000 has been raised to fund upgrades to the turf field at Esquimalt High School, and build a field house and workout facility for students to use.

A subsequent petition to the Esquimalt Council has also garnered almost 1500 signatures, gaining the attention of the mayor, councillors, and an SD61 board member.

Organized by members of Esquimalt Ribfest (a local annual charity event), the petitioners recently met with city representatives to get the ball rolling.

Esquimalt High’s track field has not been upgraded since it was put in by the class of 1970, almost 50 years ago.

These improvements would allow kids to stay in Esquimalt for outdoor sports during the winter months.

Some of the funding for the project will also come from the McLoughlin Point Amenity Funds that were specifically allocated for recreation infrastructure.
