Have your say in the Topaz Park Improvement Plan open house tomorrow

Grab the kids, bring along your finely crafted opinion of Topaz Park’s future, and come down to the Glasgow Street parking lot for some questions, free lunch, and family fun.

Topaz Park has been under review since 2016 and is closing in on a final design concept. After taking public input from over 2000 residents in December and January, the public’s values are becoming clearer, but it’s not too late to add your voice to the mix.

So far, several exciting additions are slated for the park.

78% of people supported repurposing the grass soccer field adjacent to Topaz Avenue, and 81% residents suggested enlarging the artificial turf field adjacent to Finlayson St.

Those balancing opinions will likely see the Topaz grass field removed, with a replacement turf field being added at Finlayson. Four soccer pitches will still be available at the park, which sees heavy use throughout the September-March soccer season.

In place of the grass field will be a multitude of recreational and sports facilities. Six pickleball courts, two tennis courts and a skateboard/all wheels park are proposed to take its place. The southern grassy area will have a bike skill park added to the mix.

Lastly, the eastern section will see a playground and picnic area, which residents suggested should be close to keep their youngsters together.

With Topaz Park’s central location, nearby restaurant options, and an eventual revamped Mayfair Mall, the improvements will make for a lively community hub.

Be sure to attend the open house and bring your kids to the Family Fun Zone!
