BC Ferries adds extra sailings for Victoria Day long weekend

Share

Ferry terminals and airports are about to get hectic, as Vancouver Islanders head to the mainland (and vice versa) for the Victoria Day long weekend.

If you’re hoping to catch a ferry, the wait times at Swartz Bay, Tsawwassen and other major terminals may be less time consuming than anticipated, as BC Ferries is adding extra sailings to its schedule from Thursday, May 17th to Tuesday, May 22nd.

Based on previous years, the most popular travel times are anticipated to be on Thursday and Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, and Monday.

Here’s how many sailings are being added and where

  • Victoria – Vancouver

This route is getting 73 extra sailings over the long weekend, including several 6 AM and 10 PM trips and one 10:50 PM departure from Swartz Bay terminal on Monday, May 21st.

  • West Vancouver – Mid Island/Sunshine Coast

18 extra sailings have been added to the Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) – Departure Bay (Nanaimo) route. 12 additional trips will be made to and from Horseshoe Bay and Langdale. And 12 more sailings are scheduled for the Earls Cove to Saltery Bay route.

Trips taken over the long weekend will also include vessels staffed with more employees, and entertainment for children (like face painters and balloon artists).

All aboard!
