A house fire that broke out in Saanich Monday afternoon has displaced a young family of three.
The fire was reported just after 1 p.m. in the 500-block of Ridgewood Place of Royal Oak. Heavy smoke and flames were visibly rising up from the roof of the house.
No one was home at the time and no one was injured.
“The damage was extensive,” says Deputy Fire Chief Frank McDonald. “The structure is quite unstable right now and there’s still a bit of fire activity within the roof. We won’t physically begin the investigation until it’s safe to enter the building.”
A total of 18 Saanich firefighters were on site, including the fire chief.
Fire officials say the cause is under investigation.
