Multiple witnesses are reporting shots were fired by RCMP into a vehicle at the Departure Bay ferry terminal in Nanaimo this morning.
Witnesses also reported seeing an individual being removed on a stretcher. Chopper photos of the scene show blood on the pavement near the site of the incident.

Former Saanich mayor Frank Leonard said on Twitter that police and ambulance crews have the terminal exit area blocked.
Leonard told the Times Colonist he heard “what sounded like a truck backfiring and then six to eight gunshots.”

BC Ferries have resumed following a brief delay, according to CBC. BC Ferries had posted a tweet at 11:18 a.m. stating that “sailings from Departure Bay are delayed until further notice due to Police incident at the terminal.”
BC Ferries confirmed to Victoria Buzz that ferries are running a bit behind schedule, and that all exit lanes are still blocked. All further questions were to be directed to Nanaimo RCMP.

The Independent Investigations Office confirmed that investigators have been deployed to the scene.
