There’s been another fatal drug overdose in Victoria

Share

After responding to five overdose calls in nine hours last week, VicPD had another hectic night of drug-related cases on Saturday, April 28th.

In the first instance, police officers, BC Emergency Health Services paramedics, and Victoria Fire Department firefighters were called to the 1000-block of Johnson Street where a man was “in medical crisis”.

Unfortunately, they were not able to resuscitate him, and he passed away. Although a definite cause of death has not been determined by the BC Coroners Service yet, authorities believe it was due to a fatal drug overdose based on evidence at the scene.

When his family was made aware of his death, it became evident that they did not know anything about his drug use. The incident is currently under investigation.

Second incident

About an hour before this fatal incident, police were called to the 700-block of Johnson Street to help paramedics attend to a man who was having an adverse reaction to drugs.

Wearing just underwear and a shirt, the man kept running down Johnson Street, flailing and unable to control his movements or speech.

The authorities were able to get him onto a stretcher and into an ambulance, but he abruptly became distressed and once more took off down the street.

Only when patrol officers restrained him and physically escorted him into the ambulance and all the way to hospital was he able to receive treatment.
