Police seek witnesses to alleged impaired driver in Sidney

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are looking for witnesses relating to a crash on the weekend that involved a possible impaired driver.

Several people called police to report a black Ford pickup that was driving erratically on East Saanich Road on Saturday, June 16 at around 3:30 p.m.

The pickup struck a trailer, several signs and came to rest in a ditch against some trees on Canora Drive.

The male driver displayed some symptoms of impairment, so a drug recognition expert was called in to confirm whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Police said he refused to cooperate and was charged with Refusal to Comply with Demand, and Operating a vehicle while Impaired.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police seized what is believed to be illegal drugs were located which have been sent off for analysis to support a charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Mounties thanked everyone who called in and are looking for further witnesses to support the charges.
