Victoria Police have issued a warning after one CRA scammer took things too far and showed up at a potential victim’s home.

Police said they responded to a call in the 800-block of Dunsmuir Road at about 11 a.m. on Friday morning after a report was logged of a man showing up at a residence armed with handcuffs.

When a woman answered the door, he threatened to arrest her if she did not hand over the money immediately. She closed the door and called 911 right away.

The potential victim reported that she had been receiving CRA scam telephone calls for several days prior to the incident.

The suspect is described as a tall, slim Caucasian man in his 30s, with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue suit and was last seen in the 800-block of Dunsmuir Road.

Victoria Police is reminding people that Canada Revenue Agency investigators will never show up at your door with handcuffs and threaten to arrest you if you don’t give them money.

In case this man, or someone like him makes similar demands at your doorstep, close the door and call 911 right away.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to call the Victoria Police non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
