West Shore RCMP recovered a stolen vehicle after it struck two vehicles, including an occupied police car, while making a getaway on Friday morning.

Investigators were called to a private area following reports of a suspicious large flatbed style truck.

The truck was reported stolen on Thursday, June 14. When investigators arrived, a man attempted to flee in the vehicle.

In the process, the stolen truck collided with the occupied police cruiser, causing damage, and another occupied vehicle.

Officers were able to get a description of the driver, and relayed it to other officers in the area. The truck was last seen headed toward Langford on Sooke Road at a high rate of speed, with debris coming off the back.

Officers were able to locate the truck in the Happy Valley Road / Vision Way area of Langford by following the trail of debris seen coming off the truck.

A 25-year-old man previously known to police was later arrested and taken into custody after being located walking along the Luxton fairgrounds.

West Shore RCMP are happy the pursuit came to a peaceful conclusion.

“Situations like this highlight the dangers of police work. You never know what’s going to happen,” said Cst. Matt Baker. “We cannot underestimate the actions of a highly motivated person who will do anything to get away.”
