Environment Canada lifts air quality advisory for Vancouver Island

Share

After three days of consistent heavy haze, Vancouver Island can finally spot some blue in the sky again.

For the duration of those three days, Environment Canada had a special air quality advisory and smoky skies bulletin in place to warn residents of the health hazards of wildfire smoke.

However these alerts were lifted on Thursday afternoon and Vancouver Island now has no environmental advisories in place.

As of midnight on August 16th, there were 413 active wildfires in the province, and therefore much of the mainland is still under advisory.

Follow BC Wildfire Service on Twitter for up-to-date information on the wildfire situation in the province.

As always, the public is urged to remain cautious and vigilant while in the outdoors. To report a wildfire or open burning violation, call *5555 on a cellphone, or 1 800 663-5555, toll-free.
