It looks like we’ll have to get used to a cloud of haze hanging over us for a little while longer.

Environment Canada has brought back the Smoky Skies bulletin for Vancouver Island after lifting some of it last week, and it is now applicable for most of the province.

These conditions are expected to last for at least the next few days, but may vary locally based on wind patterns and fire characteristics.

According to the provincial Air Quality Health Index, Victoria and Saanich have a low risk index (3). However Westshore has a high risk rating (8). The most at risk areas on Vancouver Island are Nanaimo and Parksville, rated at 10+.

“People with pre-existing health conditions, the elderly, infants, children and sensitive individuals are more likely to experience health effects from smoke exposure,” reads the advisory.

As of midnight on August 20th, there are 436 wildfires blazing across British Columbia.
