Drivers making their way into downtown Victoria via the Trans Canada Highway will soon see some additions to the intersection at Carey Road in the form of new traffic signals.

The traffic signals will be for transit use only, and will allow buses to leave Carey Road and turn left to head southbound along Douglas Street.

The left turn from Douglas Street onto Carey Road was removed in June. The closure and new street lights are both part of the province’s priority bus lane project, which is expected to be completed in fall 2018.

The extended bus lane will run both directions from Fisgard Avenue to Tolmie Avenue.

Once complete, Carey Road will function as a right-in/right-out turn for northbound traffic.

The Saanich Road intersection, meanwhile, will get some enhanced safety upgrades, including two signalized turning lanes for southbound traffic along Douglas Street
