3 Tour de Rock events to watch out for in Victoria next week

Share

The Tour de Rock kicked off its 1000+ kilometre journey last Saturday, and the riders have been winding their way down the island, making their annual stops along the way.

The team, comprised of first responders, government works, teachers, and media professionals, is scheduled to pass through Cumberland, Union Bay, Qualicum and Parksville today, and is expected to make their final stop in Victoria on October 5.

If you’re wondering if the tour is stopping by your community, you can check out the team’s full riding schedule here.

Since 1998, Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock has been supporting pediatric cancer research with its two-week, 1000+ kilometre ride across Vancouver Island.

Cops for Cancer began in 1996, when Edmonton police officer Gary Goulet shaved his head to support a young boy who’s fight with cancer robbed him of his hair. Soon after, fellow officer shaved their heads and posed for pictures with the boy.

In 1998, officers on Vancouver Island were inspired to do more than shave their heads for Cops for Cancer, and launched the first Tour de Rock. In its inaugural year, Tour de Rock raised $325,000, and had a team of 16 police officers.

Now, Tour de Rock has raised over $24 million, and this year’s team is a diverse 22 members strong.
