5 things to do in and around Victoria today, Wednesday September 5th

It’s been a long relaxing weekend, but now it’s time to get back to the grind!

Check out these five events to make the transition smoother:

Lunchtime Concerts in Centennial Square

  • What: Bring your lunch and enjoy great free music in the park!
  • When: 12:00pm – 1:00pm
  • Where: Centennial Square

How to Create the Robust Watercolour Painting with Elaine Hughes

  • What: In this class we will explore ways to make your watercolour paintings bolder, brighter, and more powerful. The sessions will focus on materials, secondly on how to create strong value contrasts in your work, and finally, how to use colour intensity to your advantage. You will be asked to bring examples of your own work that you feel are too timid, dull or muddy, as well as reference material that you want to work form and your usual paints and papers.
  • When: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Where: Coast Collective Art Centre – 103-318 Wale Road, Colwood

Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs

  • What: If learning about ancient pyramids, hieroglyphs, and mummies sounds like an awesome way to spend your summer, then walk like an Egyptian down to the Royal BC Museum. The exhibit gives visitors a glimpse into all aspects of ancient Egyptian life, from the emergence of ancient Egyptian civilization along the Nile to the Ptolemaic and Roman eras.
  • When: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Where: Royal BC Museum, 675 Belleville St
  • Admission: Varies.

Bike Maintenance 101

  • What: These courses are designed to go over the basic details to keep your bike in working order, and focuses on one of the following topics per clinic: Basic Maintenance, or Flat Repair (sessions are held on a rotating basis).
    Please note that all of our 101 clinics are only $10, and are limited to 8 people.
  • When: 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Where: Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) – 1450 Government Street
  • Cost: $10, and are limited to 8 people.

Karaoke Wednesdays

  • What: Thousands of songs to choose from including indie rock, pop hits, classic rock, oldies, b-sides and more!!
  • When: 9 p.m.
  • Where: Copper Owl – 1900 Douglas Street
