The moon and stars won’t be the only things lighting up the night!
Mark the first day of fall at the annual Moon Festival Lantern Celebration at the Gordon Head Recreation Centre and Lambrick Park tonight.
This free, family-friendly event invites everyone to come decorate their own lanterns and show them off once they’re done.
The evening will feature live traditional Asian dance and musical performances by local groups, lantern-making workshops, and sampling of moon cakes and traditional green tea.
This will be followed by a vibrant display of outdoor lantern installations, an enchanting community lantern procession through the park, and an outdoor musical performance.
The festival is celebrated to mark the Harvest Moon in Asian cultures and makes for quite an illuminating evening!
Here’s the schedule:
- 5:00-7:00pm – Lantern-making workshops: (Materials & light included – $4 fee per lantern)
- 5:30-7:15pm – Musical performances & mooncakes and tea sampling
- Dusk (approx. 7:25pm) – Illuminated community lantern procession with Uminari Taiko and lantern viewing
