A vehicle collision near Esquimalt Lagoon shut down Ocean Boulevard in Colwood in both directions for several hours on Thursday night.

This afternoon, the BC Coroner’s Service has confirmed that they are investigating the death of a man in his late 30’s who was involved in the accident.

A GoFundMe account set up by Michelle March identifies the deceased as 39-year-old Jay March. The goal of the fundraiser is to “help his daughter come to Victoria as soon as possible to say good-bye.”

The description on the page encourages readers to share it around, in attempts to raise as much as possible.

Details of the collision

The crash involved a red car and motorcycle and occurred near the bridge at Esquimalt Lagoon, just before 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Witnesses told Victoria Buzz it appeared the red Ford Focus pulled in front of the motorcycle while attempting to park. The motorcyclist attempted to stop and was already up on his front wheel before crashing into the back passenger side of the vehicle.

According to West Shore RCMP, the motorcycle driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the driver of the Ford Focus suffered minor injuries.

“The RCMP Collision analyst has completed a full examination and the vehicles will undergo mechanical inspections. The cause of the collision remains under investigation,” says RCMP Cpl. Chris Dovell.
