Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a late night brawl that involved over 15 people and left three suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at about 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, in the 100-block of Commercial Street.

The three people who were injured – a 25-year-old man, 20-year-old man, and 20-year-old woman – were treated on site by BC Paramedics but declined further medical attention.

The people suspected of instigating the fight fled the scene before police arrived, and they have not been identified yet.

Witnesses say the assaults appeared to have been unprovoked.

The suspects are described as a man and a woman who might be associated with an out-of-province lacrosse team that was in town competing at the Senior B Lacrosse championships.

“It is early on in the investigation and at this time, investigators are contacting witnesses to provide statements and canvassing local businesses for any security camera footage,” said Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien in a press release.

“They are also hoping witnesses may have taken iphone video(s) of the incident.”
