Nanaimo RCMP arrested two men who threatened two car loads of people with knives and machetes in August.

The suspects – 42-year-old Shane Edwards Steinhauer and 55-year-old William Robert Carrigan – are residents of the Nanaimo Tent City, and the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on August 3rd in the top level of the Thrifty Foods parkade.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, the occupants of the two cars allegedly shone a laser light into the encampment from the upper level of the parkade.

The two suspects went to confront them with knives, machetes, and a baseball bat in hand. When the vehicles attempted to leave, they made verbal threats and used their weapons to vandalize the cars.

Steinhauer and Carrigan were both arrested on September 25th without incident and charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and breach of charges.

Both men are in custody and appeared before court last week.
