VicPD searching for custom bike stolen from girl with cerebral palsy

Victoria police are asking for the public’s help in finding a stolen custom tricycle for a teenage-girl with cerebral palsy.

The unique bike was the main source of transportation for the victim, who lives with mobility challenges.

The theft occurred in the Oaklands/Shelbourne area from a fenced yard between 11:00 p.m. and midnight on Saturday, September 22.

The tricycle is described as a unique light blue with small rusty spots. It has a black seat, and its three wheels have “white wall” style tires. The white basket attached to the bike in the photograph was recently removed.

The tricycle is also a three-speed bike with the gears and brakes on the right hand side.

A neighbour reported seeing a suspect with the stolen tricycle in the Oaklands area. The suspect is described as a Caucasian man in his 20s, wearing baggy clothes and a baseball cap.

Others have reported seeing the tricycle in the downtown area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the VicPD’s non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. However, if you see someone with the tricycle, VicPD asks you call 911.

Community Response

A resident that knows the family and lives in the community has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to replace the stolen bike.

The fundraiser, titled “A bike donation to restore humanity“, hopes to raise $750 for the new custom tricycle.  A the time of the time of this publication, the campaign has raised $195.
