41-year-old man dies after targeted attack in Saanich

A 41-year-old man has succumbed to injuries he suffered in an attack Saturday, making the case a homicide, police said today.

The victim died in hospital of injuries from a September 29, attack in the 3900 block of
Carey Road
.

Police say those involved in the incident are believed to have known each other and one person was taken into custody Saturday.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) is currently investigating, but from the evidence collected so far, investigators believe the murder was targeted.

Investigators have completed their examination near a home on Carey Road in Saanich and a residence on Granderson Road in Langford.

According to witnesses, the man was allegedly attacked with a hammer and there were several attackers involved. Emergency crews were seen performing CPR on the victim before being transported to hospital.

The man’s identity is yet to be confirmed.

Police say they do not believe the public is at risk. No charges have been laid yet.

Police looking for possible witnesses on BC Transit bus

At around 3:15 pm, a BC Transit bus Route 30 was travelling on Carey Road. Investigators are asking any passengers who believe they may have seen the incident or persons associated to the incident to come forward and speak with police.
