Share

Before the polls close for the 2018 civic elections, this CRD municipality already knows who will lead them for the next four years.

No elections were held in the District of Highlands, BC as the 2,000+ population will be represented by:

  • Mayor Kenneth G Williams
  • Councillor Leslie G Anderson
  • Councillor Ann L Baird
  • Councillor Gord D Baird
  • Councillor Marcie McLean
  • Councillor Karel H Roessingh
  • Councillor Rose A Stanton

Everyone on this list has been acclaimed, as they ran without opposition. For Mayor Williams and most of the Councillors in Highlands, this will be their second term in office.

However Councillor Karen Burns decided to step down and has been replaced by Rose Stanton, for whom this is the first time holding an office in municipal politics.

The small community of Highlands is located northwest of Victoria and south of Brentwood Bay.

According to the 2016 census, the largest age bracket residing in the municipality is the 55- to 59-year-old group, followed by people aged 50 to 54 years old and then by people aged 60 to 64.

The area has seen a steady growth in population from 1,094 people in 1991 to 2,225 in 2016.
