When people think of Canadian food, some of the first things that come to mind are sweet maple syrup, Timbits, or savoury cheesy poutine.
And if you needed another reason to indulge in the cheesy, potato-y goodness, Poutine with Purpose is returning to Victoria for a week!
The event, which was introduced to Victoria last year, sees a whole week of local restaurants donating meals to youth in need for every purchase of a poutine at participating locations.
This year, there are 20 local restaurants involved, and each will donate one meal through Mealshare for every poutine dish ordered.
This means when you order a mouthwatering gravy-covered meal, you can think of it as buying dinner for two, since your purchase will also buy a hearty meal for a youth in need.
Poutine with Purpose donated 1,650 meals to youth on Vancouver Island in 2017, and this year they’re hoping to do more!
The top three sellers from last year, by a very close margin, are Northern Quarter at number one with 201 poutines sold, the Very Good Butchers at number two with 200, and Garrick’s Head Pub with 199.
Some restaurants stick to the traditional poutine, while other places add their own spin, so make sure to check out the menus and sample all the different types to find your favourite version of the Canadian delicacy.
Victoria Poutine Week kicks off on Friday and will run for just over a week.
