In a press release, the West Shore RCMP have confirmed they are investigating after a man tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into his vehicle in what is believed to be an attempt to abduct the child.

Around 4:00 pm on Thursday, the girl was walking near the area of Bellamy Road and Goldie Avenue in Langford when the man approached her driving a black four-door vehicle.

The driver stopped his vehicle beside the young girl as she walked home from school and yelled out of the drivers window telling her to get into the vehicle.

She was able to run to safety and contact the RCMP.

Police are seeking the public’s help in looking for a black four-door vehicle, possibly an SUV or van, and the male driver is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Bald with some hair on the side
  • No facial hair
  • 40-50 years old
  • Wearing a grey sweater

“Police patrols and canvassing for the vehicle and driver are negative so far. Investigators are requesting the driver of the black vehicle and anyone that may have witnessed the interaction between driver and the girl to call West Shore RCMP or Crime Stoppers,” said Cpl. Chris Dovell.

On Friday, the Sooke School District sent out a letter to parents warning of the possible attempted child abduction.

Anyone with information is asked to call the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
