Greater Victoria will experience up to 90 km/h wind gusts tonight

Additional shelter spaces have been made available in Greater Victoria for tonight due to an incoming cold front.

According to Environment Canada, the cold front will be sweeping across BC’s South Coast on Saturday evening, bringing strong winds up to 70 km/h with it around midnight.

In the wake of the front, westerly winds with gusts are expected reach up to 90 km/h overnight, and ease up ease up around midday on Sunday.

Due to the incoming harsh weather, the Extreme Weather Response Plan has been activated in Greater Victoria to provide shelter to the homeless.

The following shelters are available tonight:

  • Rock Bay Landing – 535 Ellice Street – 84 beds 
  • Sandy Merriman – 809 Burdett Ave – 25 beds (women only)
  • Salvation Army ARC – 525 Johnson St. – 21 beds (men only)
  • Out of the Rain (Congregation Emanu-El – 1461 Blanshard) – 30 Mats (youth 15-25 only)
  • First Metropolitan United Church – 932 Balmoral – 60 Mats (Co-Ed)
  • Arbutus Shelter (PHS) – 2915 Douglas St. – 50 Beds (Co-Ed)
  • Victoria Native Friendship Centre – 231 Regina Ave – 25 Mats (Co-Ed)
  • Salvation Army A.R.C. Chapel – 525 Johnson St. – 30 Mats (Co-Ed)
  • Rock Bay Landing – 535 Ellice Street – 250-383-1951 – 20 Mats (Co-Ed, Pets)
  • Our Place Society – 919 Pandora Ave – 30 Mats (Co-Ed)
