Two childhood friends from Vancouver Island win $19.8 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot

It’s been a big week for two Vancouver Island residents who are about to split a pretty sizeable cheque!

Childhood friends John Prpich from Port Alberni, and David Dubbin from Nanaimo grew up playing hockey together, and in their adult years, have been buying lottery tickets together for over 30 years.

Together, they are now BC’s newest multi-millionaires, after matching all 6 numbers to win the $19.8 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot from the November 28, 2018 draw.

When Dubbin realized their ticket had the winning numbers, he dialled up Prpich right away.

“At first I was like – it’s 5:30 in the morning! And then all I thought was ‘what an honest friend,’” added Prpich. “I was just glad to tell my kids. Now my kids are going to be okay.”

New houses, cars, and vacations to Thailand and Australia are in order for the families of the winning pair, as well as stress-free retirements for Prpich and Dubbin.

The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven on Bowen Road in Nanaimo.
