Canada vs Switzerland – World Juniors Pre-Tournament 

Tickets for this game quickly sold out but there are tickets being sold on online classifieds.

The 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship is being played in Vancouver and Victoria, B.C., from Dec 26 to Jan 5. Ten teams are participating – Canada’s National Junior Team will play in Group A with the Czech Republic, Denmark, Russia and Switzerland.

The Christmas Express!

All aboard the Christmas Express a 1910 steam locomotive as it travels through thousands of twinkling lights that adorn the 100 acre enchanted woods of the BC Forest Discovery Centre.

This even is located further up island but thousands of have made a Christmas tradition of attending this colourful and entertaining event.

The Christmas Express event is a huge undertaking and largely driven by ‘volunteer elves’. The BC Forest Discovery Centre enjoys the support of so many ‘volunteer elves’ from the community who work alongside the staff to ensure the lights are hung, they deck the halls including showcasing our buildings and artifacts to give the museum and our forest that magical festive look.

  • When: December 19th through to Sunday, December 23rd, a total of 13 magical evenings. The BC Forest Discovery Centre opens at 4 p.m. on these dates with train departures every 20 minutes beginning at 4:30 p.m. The last train departs at 8:30pm.

Sidney Gingerbread House Scavenger Hunt

The elves have been busy in Sidney this Christmas! 40 different gingerbread houses are hidden in the shops throughout town. Grab the kinds and find 12 for a chance to win 1 of 3 great prizes. Entrance forms can be found in the December Events Calendar which can be picked up at the Sidney Info Centre at 2281 Beacon Avenue (also located in various businesses across Sidney).

Comedy Night at the Mint

Each week Morgan Cranny and Drew Farrance bring the most hilarious comedian’s in the city together for a wonderful evening of fun at the best venue for stand up comedy in Victoria.

Wildly popular and always new, Phillips Comedy Night is a hilarious night out. Come downstairs and enjoy the delicious west coast Himalayan cuisine that the Mint is famous for. Tickets are $7 online or $10 at the door.

  • When:  Doors at 7 p.m. Show at 8 p.m.
  • Where: The Mint Restaurant, 1414 Douglas Street

Bicycle Polo!

A friendly and diverse group of folks who enjoys playing not-so-competitive pickup games every Wednesday night. They welcome all those who want to come watch, hang out or get on the court. If you would like to join in the fun, they can supply a bike and mallet. No skills or experience necessary. Wearing a helmet is recommended. The court is located behind the community centre.

  • When: 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Where: Fernwood Community Centre, 1240 Gladstone Avenue
