Victoria police are recommending two charges related to child exploitation against a 42-year-old man from Esquimalt man following a lengthy investigation.

The investigation began in March 2017 when investigators identified a suspect who was possibly sharing child sexual abuse videos.

According to police, the videos were “extremely graphic” and fell under the definition of child pornography under Canada’s criminal code.

Investigators secured a search warrant after they were able to track down the location of the computer.

On December 5th, officers from the Special Victims Unit, Community Services Division, Integrated Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification Section and major crimes detectives went to the Esquimalt residence and executed the search warrant.

“42 exhibits were seized and the majority will be forensically examined in the coming weeks,” police said in a release.

Police are recommending charges of possession of child pornography and make available child pornography.

The suspect was released on a promise to appear in court with several conditions.
