Pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle in North Saanich on Sunday

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are investigating a collision that took place on East Saanich Road Sunday afternoon, which claimed the life of one person.

The incident took place around 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 30th when a male pedestrian was crossing an uncontrolled crosswalk on East Saanich Road near Barrett Drive.

Once crossing, investigators believe that the man was struck by a silver Volvo station-
Wagon that was travelling southbound.

According to police, after the incident the 68-year-old North Saanich man was transported to hospital and has since succumbed to the injuries that he sustained in the collision.

While the investigation is still ongoing, police say that speed and alcohol are not considered factors at this time. However, any criminality is yet to be determined.
