Popular downtown Victoria gift store shuttering its doors after 30 years

Zydeco Gifts, a popular downtown Victoria gift store, is closing its doors at the end of next week.

The longstanding local business first opened on lower Johnson Street in 1986, and became known for its playful and unique gifts.

“I used to say, ‘If you don’t need it we have it,” Zydeco owner Molly Holser told Victoria Buzz.

“Life is meant to be fun, that’s how I kind of kept the store,” she said.

Molly said that Zydeco started on lower Johnson long before the block became “a boutique street”.

“The whole ‘LoJo’ thing changed the street,” she said

No matter how the city changed, inside the store Molly said the fun and the laughter remained.

“I used to love having people read the [gifts] and laughing.”

“People would say – ‘oh sorry’ – but no, I enjoyed listening to you laugh!”

There’s still two weeks to check out the decades old store, and until the doors close for good, Zydeco is holding a 50% off sale!

Zydeco Gifts last day of business is Friday, January 18th.

“I’m glad I got to see people and to see people laugh,” said Molly.
