9:50 p.m. update: The suspect has surrendered to police and is now in custody.
Earlier:
West Shore RCMP are currently dealing with an erratic man in the Gorge Waterway.
According to reports online, the man was initially seen walking along an overpass on HWY 1 in an unsafe manner.
He then stole a vehicle and later crashed into a hydro pole on Helmcken Road. He then fled on foot and stole a canoe in the Gorge Waterway, causing emergency boats to be deployed.
Officers on shore are now trying to talk the man into surrendering.
