Ring in Spring with a lively, empowering, and most of all, FUN week of kickass events at the first ever Womxn’s Week in Victoria!

Womxn’s Week is all about bringing the community together by holding lady-themed events that also help showcase the strength of the womanly gender.

“It’s a week to celebrate, to get inspired, to feel empowered!” said volunteer organizer and Consent Captain of the Victoria Event Centre, Tanille Geib.

“Let’s create a community of kickass humans together, because what we need is each other and a little bit of glitter!”

The festivities run all week, starting on Monday, March 4th, with different events each night. Here’s a schedule of what to expect, and 7 reasons why you absolutely need to check out Womxn’s Week:

1. Movie Night and Pop Up Shops

Kick start the week with a cozy movie night and chance to see local women’s crafts and clothing on display!

Explore pop up shops featuring vintage clothing, crafts and art by local women-run businesses and social justice groups, and enjoy the screening of Hidden Figures, the Academy Award nominated film about a group of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the US’s early space program.

Seating will be available but feel free to bring lawn chairs, cozy blankets, and to wear a onesie!

When: Monday, March 4th, 6:00 p.m. to 11 p.m.  (Pop-up shops at 6 p.m., movie begins at 7:15 p.m.)

2. Womxn’s Week Speakeasy

Grab a drink and a dance partner and head out for an ultra-cool outing at this women-powered speakeasy.

The night will begin with swing dance lessons featuring a live swing jazz band, and of course, cocktails! Before the dancing begins, there will also be a screening of the film Suffragette, which centers around a woman in 1912 who is galvanized into radical political activism in support of the right for women to vote.

When: Tuesday, March 5th, 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. (Movie begins at 6 p.m., doors and dance lessons are at 8 p.m.)

3. Outer-space Variety Show

Join Womxn’s Week in a galaxy far far away for this deep-space variety show!

Immerse yourself in the creativeness, weirdness, and “most of all awesomeness” of this vaudeville show.You’ll leave feeling proud to share a community with such like-minded women!

March 6th, serendipitously, is also the birthday of Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space.

When: Wednesday, March 6th, 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Where: The Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad Street

4. Captain Marvel Screening

Get ready for trip to the silver screen as Womxn’s Week heads to Silver City to see Marvel’s largest female superhero blockbuster, Captain Marvel!

The group will be carpooling from the event centre, and afterwards there will be a special woman-themed dance party by Temple back at VEC.

Don’t forget to pre-purchase tickets to the movie at Silvercity!

“We invite people of all gender expressions, sexualities and from all walks of life to honor women and the feminine spirit,” reads the Temple concert description. “The look, feel, and sound of the night is all going to have a more feminine quality, while still holding to dark and strange aspects that makes Temple what it is.”

Proceeds for that event go to the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre.

When: Friday, March 8th

  • Carpool leaves VEC at 6:30 p.m. sharp, movie begins at 7:00 p.m.
  • Temple: 10:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

5. Aerobics and Mimosas

Need we say more?

Join the Womxn’s Week community for an epic Saturday of awesome aerobics and tasty mimosas.

Dress up in your best or silliest aerobic gear and join along in retro aerobics videos projected on the big screen. A little exercise and a little alcohol is all you need to start your weekend morning off right.

When: Saturday, March 9th, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Where: The Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad Street

6. Get Cozy with The Vixens Burlesque

Even though the snow’s gone, Wintery chills still haven’t left Victoria, that’s why The Vixens are here to get your blood pumping and keep you cozy until Spring!

The Vixens, Busty, Cherry, Sophie, Victoria, and Vogue are here for their Victoria debut as part of their 2019 Spring Island Tour. Besides their usual routines, the crew is bringing a new performances and a special guest performer, Vivian Vieux!

When: Sunday, March 10th, 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Where: The Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad Street

7. Matchmaker Monday 4:0: Salty Broads in Space

Get bold and romantic with Womxn’s Week’s closing event!

One part mingling/dating event, one part retro variety hour, and one part live game show, this meet-up will be one to remember.

“Break out your best spacesuit and set phasers to STUNNING! Costumes are encouraged but not required,” says Womxn’s Week.

Plus, who knows? Maybe you’ll find that special someone while wearing face paint and glowsticks!

“Whether you are looking to meet new friends or are searching for possibly more, this will be a safe space to mingle, make new connections, and have fun!”

When: Monday, March 11th, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
