BC Coroners Service seek help identifying body found on shores of nearby Gulf island

BC Coroners Service are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a man who was found on the shores of Valdes Island, which is just south of Gabriola Island.

The body was found on June 23rd, 2018, and the individual is believed to have been of average build, aged 20 to 40 years, with light skin colour, short black hair and standing approximately 178 centimetres (5′ 10″) tall.

At the time of recovery, he was wearing green shorts, a small red-and-black tartan fleece shirt, a “Donate Life” silicone wristband, a distinctive bullet necklace, and a Texas-style belt buckle.

The man also had several distinct tattoos, the renderings of which are pictured below:

Valdes Island is approximately 74 km from Victoria, and 23.5 km away from Nanaimo.

Anyone with information relating to the identity of this individual is asked to call the BC Coroners Service Special Investigations Unit at 1 877 660-5077 and quote case number 2018-1023-0072, or contact the Gabriola Island RCMP at 250 247-8333 and quote the case number 2018-377.
