If you were one of the many who included “getting healthy”, “saving money”, and “eating out less” as three of your 2019 New Year’s resolutions, and are already finding it hard not to cave in to going out for pricey burgers and fries, don’t worry it’s not too late: we’ve got you covered.
It’s no secret that YYJ has an incredible natural environment with weather that allows us to grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
Add in access to the various community gardens around the city, and suddenly the only thing that separates you from being able to grow your own food is the know-how.
Knowing how to grow, when to grow, and even exactly what to grow is daunting to many, and if embraced would not only provide a considerably healthier diet, it will save some serious money too.
That said, on Saturday February 9th and February 23rd, the Compost Education Centre will help with just that. Expert and sustainability activist Kayla Siefried will be on-hand, leading the event, which has promised to show you how to plan to grow year round, protect your crops in winter, and transition one crop to another – all lessons for a much healthier lifestyle and diet (and think about all the packaging you would be saving!)
It would seem that taking part in these two event would definitely give you the edge when it comes to achieving your healthier lifestyle, and maintaining those not-forgotten New Year’s Resolutions.
