A 40-year-old Canadian man who was wanted on a country-wide warrant for breaching his parole was arrested by West Shore RCMP with help from the Vancouver Police Department on Wednesday.

The wanted man, Carmen Briault, is a three-time federal offender who is currently serving a three year and nine month sentence for robbery in Calgary.

He was released on parole with conditions in Vancouver on December 13, 2018, where he was set to live at the Harbour Light Community Residential Facility. On January 5th, 2019, he failed to return to the facility and the Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large was issued.

Two weeks later, West Shore RCMP officers found him on the island.

“Officers in our Crime Reduction Unit received information from the Vancouver Police High Risk Offender Unit on the possible whereabouts of Mr. Briault,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar of the West Shore RCMP in a release.

“Our Crime Reduction Unit acted on this information, located, and safely arrested Carmen Briault in Langford. There is no doubt that Carmen Briault was arrested due to the quick actions of the Crime Reduction Unit.”

Briault is now in police custody.
