Share

Happy Tuesday, Victoria!

We hope you have been enjoying the island’s sunny weather! On today’s agenda, Womxn’s Week continues with dancing and a speakeasy, a night of literature from the minds of UVic students, and a chance to chat with the mayor of Victoria herself.

Without further ado, here’s 5 things to do in and around Victoria today!

Womxn’s Week Speakeasy

Grab a drink and a dance partner and head out for an ultra-cool outing at this women-powered speakeasy.

The night will begin with swing dance lessons featuring a live swing jazz band, and of course, cocktails! Before the dancing begins, there will also be a screening of the film Suffragette, which centers around a woman in 1912 who is galvanized into radical political activism in support of the right for women to vote.

  • When: 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. (Movie begins at 6 p.m., doors and dance lessons are at 8 p.m.)
  • Where: The Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad Street

Write On: A Night Out with New Writers

Say hello to the next generation of Canadian Literature as MFA students from UVic’s Department of Writing!

The writers will read and perform their graduating manuscripts in fiction, poetry, playwriting, and creative nonfiction at this lively (and licensed) literary cabaret.

Learn how to prepare for some of the most likely hazard that could affect Victoria, like power outages, winter storms, earthquakes, or tsunamis at this free Workshop hosted by the City of Victoria.

What to include in your home or vehicle emergency kits and how to reunite with loved ones after a disaster are just some of the topics being discussed.

  • When: 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Where: Silver Threads Service, 2340 Richmond Road
