An epic win deserves an epic celebration, and the first-of-its-kind home-opener for Vancouver Island’s Pacific FC was just that!
Amongst the loud and proud crowds of 6,000 at the newly renovated and sold-out Westhills Stadium, the boys in purple secured themselves a 1-0 win over the visiting Halifax Wanderers in what was a historic occasion on all fronts.
Pacific Football Club’s defender Hendrik Starostzik scored the only goal between the two coastal teams, the Wanderers travelling an impressive 4,500 km of distance just to play the opening game of the season.
German native Starostzik earned himself a couple of firsts last night at PFC’s inaugural match – scoring both the first header and the first goal from a corner kick in league history.
Aside from the dominant performance on the pitch, Westhills Stadium was alive with excitement with plenty of entertainment including bands, dancers, and the newest fuzzy purple member of team, mascot Stewie the Starfish making the rounds and mingling with the fans.
