A block of Victoria’s downtown core was closed to traffic on Wednesday afternoon after police received reports of a suspicious package in the area.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., police were called to the 700-block of Cormorant Street with concerns of a possible bomb threat.

Officers quickly cordoned off the area, and sources say that one building on the street was evacuated as police investigated the object.

After roughly one hour, the street was reopened and the situation was resolved.

Police say that the object was a pressure cooker that was discarded by a worker in a nearby building.

Officials say that there was no threat to the public at any time, and that the item was removed by officers.
