23-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting woman at knifepoint in Saanich residence

Saanich Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred inside a residence on March 17th.

At the time, the suspect entered the townhouse located in the 3900 block of Wolf Street in Gordon Head at around 2 a.m. He then brandished a knife and proceeded to sexually assault a 22-year-old woman victim before fleeing the scene.

After an extensive investigation, a 23-year-old Saanich man was arrested on May 7th and will be appearing in court to face charges of Sexual Assault with a Weapon, Break and Enter, and Forcible Confinement.

The suspect was not known to the victim, who is from the lower mainland and was staying overnight with her friends who attend UVic.

“This was very traumatic crime that significantly impacted the 22 year old female victim. We have remained in close communication with her and are ensuring that support services are available to her as our investigation moves forward as a result of this arrest,” said Saanich Police Sgt. Julie Fast.

At the time of the incident, police warned the public to make sure their doors were locked, as it is possible the suspect had prior knowledge of the home being insecure.
