A 23-year-old man has succumbed to injuries sustained in an ATV accident in Nanaimo earlier this week.

On Sunday, May 19th, at approximately 2 a.m., the man was out for a late night ride with two friends when he lost control of his ATV after rounding a corner and was thrown into some nearby bushes.

His friends were able to carry him to the nearby road and call 911, after which RCMP and BC Paramedics arrived on site near the intersection of South Forks Rd and Nanaimo Lakes Rd.

They were able to ascertain that the 23-year-old had sustained life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital from where he was then airlifted to Vancouver.

Unfortunately the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 7 a.m. that same day.

“Investigators will be examining a number of factors including speed of the bike, the terrain and the ATV itself to determine what may have contributed to the fatal accident,” states Cst. Gary O’Brien.

“The ATV will also be undergoing a mechanical inspection this week.”

His family has been notified.
